Founded in 1981, the Kerala Cartoon Academy (KCA) is India’s first organized collective of cartoonists, dedicated to celebrating and promoting the art of cartooning. The roots of the Academy trace back to 1967, when a group of visionary cartoonists made the first attempt to form such an organization. In 1981, leading artists including Yesudasan, B. M. Gafoor, Toms, Shivaram, and Thomas revived the idea, which led to the official establishment of the Academy the following year. Over the years, KCA has grown into a vibrant community of 100+ professional cartoonists recognized by the Kerala Government. The Academy has conducted hundreds of workshops, exhibitions, seminars, and festivals, nurturing young talent and bringing the power of satire, humor, and social commentary closer to the public. Kerala Cartoon Academy continues to uphold its mission: to inspire, educate, and connect through the timeless art of cartoons.
